Very odd though. I just came online to say there's nothing on either the EP or this alternative Neon in today's newsletter, yet the EP was supposed to be available next week!

You could be right Pughie. I said end of 2021 I thought we'd see it around May this year, with the European tour, which was due the same month.

I guess it's a release the band doesn't really need to promote either, so an easy release for Mute!

Perhaps this was tied to tour promotion. If so, we can understand why it might be pushed back.

I guess we also don't know how complete this project is. The band would still need to sign off certain elements (art, remixes etc) and I'd assume Vince is completely focussed on his family for the foreseeable.

We also don't know if singles were planned, which would complicate any release as it means more art, more remixes, radio play, some promotional work etc.

I know this isn't what the record company wishes to hear, but they ought to move away from Neon now. I've not known a record company promote variations of an album two years after the release. They ought to consider releasing it as a digital release with litle fanfare.

This release doesn’t have any ‘singles’ on it,as we know them. If you remember from the original livestream it’s new tracks made up of snippets of vocal samples taken from the original Neon recordings,Andy has also recorded newer vocal sounds to go with some of the tracks. Vince has recorded 8 tracks with 2 extra tracks made by Andy/Gareth Jones with 2 more in reserve. I think this is just a stand alone release but with the extra 2 tracks could I suppose appear later as another EP with possible remixes as you mention,but this is just my take on it.

Yes, but we don't fully know. We're just taking snippets the band has told us and coming to our own conclusion. We don't know what Andy & Gareth produced themselves and the two extra tracks.

Point is, there might be some kind of 'single' forerunner to promote the album with a few mixes. We just don't know. But that was the plan, that might explain the delay.

I do think it's wise to just release the album digitally and not worry about extra content. Get it out there. If not, Neon will end up dragging into a third year! Only last year Andy was talking with Vince about new music.
