It turns out that Paul Khera who created the artwork for this album & singles has said that the 4th single was going to be Hallowed Ground and that he has the original artwork for this lost 4th single somewhere in his house. He was contacted to use this lost artwork for the Phantom Bride EP but it wasn’t used in the end,due to timing.
Listen from this point-
Hallowed Ground (the lost 4th single)
Re: Hallowed Ground (the lost 4th single)
Interesting! I don’t know how I feel about Hallowed Ground as a single though. It’s probably for the best that it never happened. After the strength of SoF, CoL and ALR, HG would have bombed like Heavenly Action. Moving on to Stop! was the right decision.
Re: Hallowed Ground (the lost 4th single)
This obviously isn’t a thread about the journey from The Innocents to Stop! and Crackers International… but it seems so clear that the extreme change in sound was a reaction to Vince’s negative experience in working with Stephen Hague. Hague added such a typical top 40 pop gloss to the sound of The Innocents and in contrast we have the harder, more aggressive electronic elements on Crackers. Sorry for the off topic comment but I’m fascinated with the subject…mrblue wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 3:03 am Interesting! I don’t know how I feel about Hallowed Ground as a single though. The weird thing is that most people who don't care about Erasure (in my own experience only) really liked Hallowed Ground. I love it, because it shows off Andy's voice quite well.
Re: Hallowed Ground (the lost 4th single)
I didn't pick Hallowed Ground as a possible single at the time. I always thought they were crackers for not releasing Phantom Bride at the time. It seemed the most obvious 4th single and I was glad they righted that wrong for the remaster

I need to congratulate Stickman on using the phrase ‘crackers’. Very clever.MikeyC wrote: Mon Dec 19, 2022 12:16 amWell said!stickman wrote: Sun Dec 18, 2022 10:46 pm I didn't pick Hallowed Ground as a possible single at the time.
