Sonic Seducer Magazine (German Issue)

Post by MikeyC »

Hmmm from today’s newsletter. What could it be? Thoughts??

“in fact if you're in Germany for example then - if everything goes according to plan - you should keep an eye on the music magazines shelf at your favourite newsagent for something rather nice and Erasure shaped. And if you're not in Germany then don't panic, I will have all the details you might need in the next newsletter.”

Almost certainly a magazine giveaway/covermount. My company works with German magazines and one thing they love to do is put something on the front of their magazines as a freebie. I'd guess a track or a compilation which Erasure is part of? Maybe something from Day Glo?

It hasn't got a preview track, but nonetheless The Guardian has an interview with Andy Bell and it does mention Day Glo. To be found on the online Guardian right from their fron page or just here: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/ ... om-fashion

Hopefully this is the translation-

A new Erasure album after only two years – you're not used to that from Vince Clarke and Andy Bell. But the lockdown made it possible for Clarke to return to the studio soon after 2020's long-player The Neon and reassemble set pieces from the record, while Bell improvised vocal ad-libs with producer Gareth Jones to bring the fragments to life.

So "Day-Glo (Based On A True Story)" isn't such a lively, rattling, carefree piece of synth pop as its predecessor, but it unfolds a long-term effect in just under 32 minutes. "3 Strikes And You're Out" remains the only piece with a fully formulated text - or more precisely, the only real song. The rest, on the other hand, proves that Erasure also leave a lot of impressions apart from the usual pop. Whether it's ambient sculptures like "The Conman" and "The Shape Of Things" or the crisp, albeit short club tracks "Bop Beat" and "Inside Out", which follow the concentrated rave thumps of the Clarke:Hartnoll album "2Square “ are not dissimilar. "Day-Glo (Based On A True Story)" doesn't offer immediately soluble singles or even hits like "Hey Now (Think I've Got A Feeling)" or "Nerves Of Steel" - but it does offer a deep insight into Clarke's machine park and a Bell that is vocally convincing even without the drama of the content. And now Erasure can slowly start to catch their breath for the album for the upcoming 40-year-old in a few years.
