EIS Newsletter-

ERASURE: ANNOUNCING A BRAND NEW LIVE ALBUM 'THE NEON LIVE' FOR 2022 - PRE-SALE STARTS TODAY!

This is exciting, and also quite complicated so please do read this bit carefully. On March 4th 2022 Erasure will be releasing 'The Neon Live', a brand new live album to celebrate 'The Neon Tour'. Recorded at Manchester's O2 Apollo on 9th and 10th October 2021 'The Neon Live' will be released initially in three deluxe physical formats by Live Here Now. Are you ready to hear more? Here you go...

First of all there's a Deluxe 2-CD format which is limited to 3000 copies, packaged in a triple fold out sleeve with metallic ink and silver foil logo on the cover and accompanied by a 12-page full-colour booklet. This double CD features an entire show, complied from the band's favourite performance of each song chosen from across the two shows in Manchester.

Then there's a Deluxe 3-Vinyl edition, limited to 1500 copies and pressed on heavyweight, violet-sparkle vinyl and packaged in a triple fold out sleeve with metallic ink printing and accompanied with an 8-page full-colour booklet. This 3-piece vinyl edition has the same tracklisting as the 2-CD format above, the tracks complied from our favourites across the two shows in Manchester.

Finally we have a Super Deluxe 4-CD Hardback Book edition. The book is compiled and curated in association with the Erasure Information Service and is limited to 1500 copies. The four CDs contain the two Manchester shows, each in their entirety (not a single note of music, or word from Andy's mouth is missing!) and come packaged in a deluxe A5 88-page hardback book which contains live and backstage photographs alongside a selection of exclusive content. Plus, if you pre-order the hardback book edition you also have the opportunity to have your name - or a name of your choice - included in the credits section of the book.

It's a bit tricky to get the full effect of these deluxe editions from the visuals we've put online, but they are all printed using metallic inks and tie in closely with the aesthetic that runs through the entire campaign for The Neon. Rest assured that they will all look absolutely spectacular and you will probably want to spend a lot of your time just stroking them and sighing contentedly when they arrive...

You've probably heard the news stories about the current difficulties in manufacturing vinyl records so I suspect that it will come as no surprise when I tell you that although the Deluxe 2-CD edition of 'The Neon Live' will be released on 4th March 2022 the vinyl will take longer than that. Due to the current global vinyl manufacturing crisis, the lead times on vinyl are completely bonkers at the moment so it's unlikely that the Deluxe 3-Vinyl release will be ready to ship until August or September 2022. We will release the Deluxe 4-CD Hardback Book format at the same time as the 3-Vinyl for two reasons: firstly because we don't want people paying two sets of postage costs for those items, and secondly because we want your pictures and content to include in the book alongside the official photography, and this way it means that those of you in North America, and those of you attending the UK & European leg of the tour in May 2022, will also be able to see the show and will be able submit your pictures and memories before we go to print. More about all of that will be included in a future newsletter.

To make the time go by a little more quickly, anyone who pre-orders the Deluxe 4-CD Hardback Book or the Deluxe 3-Vinyl Album will be sent a download version of the 2-CD Audio when it comes out on 4th March, just to keep you going!

We have no reason to doubt this schedule, but you may have noticed that the there have been a lot of unexpected events over the last couple of years (!), and while we will do our best to stick to the schedule we may need to adjust those dates if we're hit any bumps in this particular road, but if that happens I promise that we will keep you up to date on any changes. One final thing to note right now is that as with ‘World Be Live’ Mute will be releasing standard CD, vinyl and digital editions, which will be available from all tip-top retailers and streaming services around the world, but those editions won’t be released until late 2022 or maybe 2023. Just so you know. :-)

These deluxe editions of 'The Neon Live' are available to pre-order right now exclusively from Live Here Now and from Lexer Music. Phew... I hope that all makes sense!

Seeing as LHN are a London based company I would assume it would be the 02 gig that gets recorded (but that’s just my opinion)

Considering they recorded gigs further afield than London before, and specifically for Erasure, I don't see any impediment to them having already started, myself.

What do you mean by "already started"? LHN are probably only going to be at one concert to do any recording. I doubt it's going going to be economically viable to be at every show. There's no track record of them recording every show in the past, EXCEPT for when they made every show available on the night, and I don't think that's happening.

So really it's just a question of which show they will record.

Well, while I cited an example of why the Armadillo is certainly not a venue too far, I wasn't implying they would do every show. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if they were recording the tour opener. Additionally, if a line's going to be drawn on cost, I'm more doubtful that any show in the contiguous UK would be skipped versus Europe overall. We're talking wages and gas there. It may not be infeasible.

Additionally, it's rare for only one show to be recorded due to the risks of a technical issue arising, so even were they skint enough to only attempt one, they would surely do two for safety.

Oh for sure - I thought you were inferring they might be at every show doing recordings (and I was just thinking you meant for the UK leg).

But Is it rare to record just one show? Do we know - or rather do you know! - that they recorded two nights for the Word Be Gone tour for instance? Which shows did they record over two nights? Where do you get the idea it's common practice? (I'm not trying to call you out - I'm genuinely interested to know if you're aware of something definite! Have LHN said that's what they do?)

The original reason cited for never releasing the Cowboy tour on video/DVD is that the audio recording wasn't very good, which very much suggests they only recorded one night. Of course it could be they've learnt a lesson since then...

Certainly it sounds like a good idea to record two shows - I would want to if I was in charge! - it makes sense to do that and you might be right. I wouldn't be surprised if they do. If they do though, I would imagine the most practical way of doing it would be to be at a show that is at the same venue over two nights. Which could mean, as you say, they may have started already with the Glasgow gigs!

I had been speaking generally of what I'd heard/read of official live concert recordings done in the past; not LHN specifically. I'd have to dig again for citations though. As for if it's a wide practice overall, I believe so, as aside from music, concert tapings before live audiences of things like comedy shows also follow this procedure. All in all, I'd be stunned if LHN drove out for one show and called it quits. Truly.

Regarding Cowboy, I've read the same, and it's a tragedy given the resources available due to their new US label at the time. It remains indefensible.
