LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL

We are absolutely delighted to announce that our performances at the iconic Royal Albert Hall on 14th and 15th March will be recorded and released as a live album.

These very special shows will feature two sets taking in the atmospheric (think Statues, Stanlow and Ghost Star) and some rarely played material from the first album alongside a celebration of 40 years of hits. Following some returns, there are a few tickets available (including Premium Packages) for both nights if you can join us in London.

The live album will presented in 4 formats:

Deluxe 4CD Photobook: Super Deluxe Hardback A5 book, featuring live and backstage photos, together with 4 CD's featuring both shows in their entirety as they were performed. **All Preorders will have the name of the person in the SHIPPING Address printed in the book thank you page** (This can be different from the person placing the order)

3LP Orange Vinyl: Triple heavyweight vinyl featuring the full setlist (selecting the best performances from both nights)

2CD: Double CD featuring the full setlist (selecting the best performances from both nights)

Digital: Digital audio of the full setlist (selecting the best performances from both nights)

Additionally, sets of test pressings are also available while stocks last - limited to just 50 sets worldwide

I just purchased tickets for OMD’s Austin show next month and I’m SO FREAKING EXCITED! I’ve watched many of their live shows over the years but never had a chance to see them in person. I remember @mikedepaz telling me years ago, soon after OMD had regrouped, that he was happy to finally see them live. I was jealous and figured I’d never have the chance…. and now it’s only a month away! Sorry for the otherwise useless post, but I just had to express my joy!!

NEVER BEFORE AVAILABLE ON VINYL, FOR THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF ITS ORIGINAL CD RELEASE THIS IS ALSO THE COMPLETE PEEL SESSIONS ISSUED TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME ON ANY FORMAT

Still very much active (their last album – No. 2 in the UK, No. 7 in Germany - was issued in 2023), Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), founded by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, emerged from Liverpool in the late ‘70s and are rightly regarded as one of the more original of the so-called ‘synth pop’ outfits of the following decade.

Notably also one of the more successful, they have enjoyed at least 20 hit singles across Europe and beyond, with total sales of around 40 million records to date.

Their early years were highly influential and this release, acclaimed by many fans as the band at the height of their powers, provides a snapshot of OMD at arguably their most vital, focused and interesting; full of highly imaginative, slightly left-field, awkward but accomplished pop, captured by the BBC in four different sessions (one in 1979, two in 1980 and one in 1983).

And while it is the first time that any of these tracks have been pressed on vinyl, it is also the first time that every single track from their sessions for John Peel have been issued together. The original CD version of this collection, issued in 2000, omitted the second recording of ‘Bunker Soldiers’, recorded as part of the 1983 session.

Mastered (where necessary) and cut to lacquer by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios, as Aaron Badgley of allmusic.com observed: “Even well-known songs such as ‘Enola Gay’ take on a new life here. Rougher, rawer, and much more experimental. Fans also have the opportunity to hear some tracks from their very much underrated (LP) Dazzle Ships performed live. Those particular tracks are downright eerie,…but brilliant nonetheless.”

OMD / Crush 40th anniversary
2CD and 2LP deluxe sets

Image

OMD’s 1985 album Crush, will be reissued for its 40th anniversary in October.

The band’s sixth album features the singles ‘So In Love,’ and ‘Secret’, with the former reaching the top 30 of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

The album will be reissued as a 2CD deluxe edition featuring seven previously unreleased tracks newly mixed from the multi-tracks. These include four unheard songs. Additionally there’s B-sides and remixes.

The 40th anniversary re-release of Crush has been a wonderful opportunity for us to re-assess the album. 1985 was a period of great intensity with constant touring and time pressure in the studio, but we created a powerful collection of songs and lyrical themes. In hindsight, we made a much better album than we knew at the time. Two hit singles ‘So in Love’ and ‘Secret’ remain live set constants to this day.

The 2LP vinyl edition also features the seven unreleased tracks, but not the B-sides. The standard extended mix of ‘So In Love’ is also omitted. Both formats include rare photos and comprehensive notes by journalist and author Jason Draper in conversation with Andy McCluskey.
