A quick beginners guide to-Breathe Of My Leaves aka Stephano Barberis-
The debut album Pangeometrica released in 2013,consisting of 13 instrumentals,including Cylcops which was later sampled and made into a new track by Shelter called ‘Icon’ featured on their album ‘Ascend’.
The follow up 2018’s ‘Chimera’ featured another 13 tracks of various genres,but amidst the instrumentals there appeared one track ‘Love You Lately’ featuring vocals by Jordan Gant,little did they know that this would create quite a stir,leading to a full collaboration and BOML’s now becoming a duo,like all great synth duos the chemistry turned out to be pure gold.
Album three ‘The Radiant Believers’ 2023 another 13 track affair,we now see the fully formed duo of Barberis & Gant,creating this all new masterpiece chock full of electronic goodness,the most rounded and cohesive album so far ……
01.Stay
The album opener,a mid tempo track that slowly draws you in with lovely synth work and a singalong chorus,the perfect start.
02.You’re My Light
Track two starts off with a nice quiet bubbling synth,a mid tempo track until just over a minute & the heavens open up with this pulsing drum beat,really kicking off the album,it does quieten down a gain before pumping up the adrenalin,these two opening songs really set you up for what’s to come,but next the foreboding entry of ….
03.Godzilla
“The Radiant Believer”
I think anyone who knows Stephano will know of his love of Godzilla,I share this love too,so hearing he had a track named after everyone’s favourite nuclear infused lizard was going to be something I wanted to hear,a nice instrumental going on past songs,but no …. Lyrics! An ode to the city crushing saviour of mankind.
The song opens up with quite a menacing deep throb of synth,giving you the feeling you know what’s stomping towards you the Legend that is Godzilla.
Ending with a very clever little nod to Japan the spiritual home of the Big G.
04.Clarke & Bell
“Put on some Clarke & Bell to save me”
A sentiment I’m sure most of us will identify with,if I’m having a bad day,I put on some Clarke & Bell and that certainly saves me!
The track opens up with a very familiar synth sound rising up until the track kicks off,plenty of joy to be had,and a sing-a-long chorus what’s more to love?
A love letter to Erasure,if you didn’t know who Clarke & Bell were before you certainly will now,Erasure fans made this the most streamed track from the album after it was let loose.
05.All The Memories Made
A disjointed start to this track,then along comes a mid tempo ballad. A nice break in the running order before we head back to the full on tracks.
06.Avalon
Another full on track,the second taster from the album,a driving beat that just takes you away. A throbbing bassline riff that knocks your socks off.
07.Megalith
This to me is very Depeche Mode circa People Are People,and that’s not a bad thing,very bombastic and in your face.
08.Sweet Music Man
BOML-The song is an electrified cover of Kenny Rogers’ country classic ballad from the 1970’s which has been covered by other major artists like Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. “Sweet Music Man” was written by Kenny Rogers after a flight from Los Angeles to Nashville when he sat next to Jessi Colter (Waylon Jennings’ wife).
It’s a sign of a true artist who can take a song from a genre so far removed from your comfort zone,and turn it into a song that doesn’t look or sound out of place alongside your original compositions is a real talent,and that talent is shown here. Ye & indeed ha!
09.Us
This was the first taste of the 3rd album from Breathe Of My Leaves. ‘Us’ came out to critical praise from online radio stations and fans alike. All the elements of a smash hit in one place,it really was a crowd pleaser on release,and a stark difference in sound and approach from past efforts.
10.Supernova Heart
If you thought Jordan was a vocal talent to be reckoned with,here we have a duet with his other half Tareya Green,all this talent in one place! Equally shared out vocals in this spectacular track. One of my favourites from this album,all the stars align with this one,pop perfection.
11.Trepidation!
So this was deemed the ‘first official single’,on every other track released before this it was the same line … ‘and this isn’t the best on the album’,no kidding this smasher runs & runs,no trepidation from us needed. A killer vocal from Jordan fits perfectly with this rapid fire track,it’s all going on.
12.Perfect Defeat
Personally my favourite track from the album,what more astonishing is it took 12 tracks of supreme quality before this one took the lead. Echoes of Depeche’s Behind The Wheel with the vocal riff,to my ear,and that’s no bad thing,a stomper if ever I heard one. A trumpet sounding fanfare opens this one up,a pulsating beat and a killer backing vocal hook you won’t get out of your head.
13.Across The Rainbow Bridge
The perfect ending to the album,a trick Erasure have mastered,always end an album with a slower more thoughtful offering that always leaves you wanting more ……a that my friend is a good thing,the only thing left to do is press ‘play’ again.

If you’ve followed the progress of Breathe Of My Leaves over the past few years like I have,and I feel that there are bands/artists that when you hear them you know exactly who it is,with Stephano’s music tracks I have that feeling,”that’s Stephano,that’s BOML’s”
The first two album had this feel,the last album ‘Chimera’ was an eclectic set of tracks spanning many genres,but still with that distinct sound.
‘The Radiant Believers’ also has this unique sound but this time it’s ramped up to the max,a solid feel & vibe to this set of tracks that just fits and works perfectly,is this a good thing? Well yes it is for us mere listeners & fans,for BOML this now sets a very high bar,one I’m sure will be no problem in the future this latest incarnation with the duo in full effect can only go higher ……. Watch this space.

Breathe Of My Leaves are excited to present the brand new smash hit long player The Radiant Believers in compact disc format. The CD is available for order via the Breathe Of My Leaves Bandcamp site. Included on this physical CD version of the album is a different mix of "Sweet Music Man" that isn't available anywhere else.
The Radiant Believers was released last week to astoundingly rave reviews from industry and radio professionals to fans around the world. Seven singles have been released from this rapturously uplifting album over the last few months with more scheduled. A few of the singles made multiple year-end best-of lists at radio stations and DJ's with two of them being listed as "song of the year" on the biggest radio shows in the indie synth community.
The 13-track album beams with hope and is lauded as one of the most remarkable indie success stories for this genre, and it is now officially on CD.
