ANDY BELL: ANDY WILL BE A GUEST ON JAKES SHEARS' NEW 'QUEER THE MUSIC' PODCAST NEXT WEEK
Jake Shears launched a new podcast this week. It's called 'Queer The Music' and it sets out to explores some of the tracks that have been adopted as LGBTQ+ anthems for their message as well as for their roles in influencing politics, perception, and popular culture. As of this moment there are two episodes already available - one celebrating Sylvester's 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)', and one with Self Esteem - and, if everything goes according to plan, Episode Three, the episode featuring Andy, will be available at some point next Tuesday (February 6th). 'Queer The Music' is available on YouTube here, and is also available via a selection of the main podcast providers here.
Andy Bell was out and proud from the get-go, fronting synth-pop duo Erasure who sold over 20 million albums and had an incredible 17 Top 10 singles. This episode celebrates the most enduring of all their records, the 1988 hit ‘A Little Respect’. Considered by many as the ultimate Pride Anthem, to this day it still gets dance floors heaving and crowds singing their hearts out. Jake and Andy discuss the making of the song, growing in confidence and progressing as a queer performer.
